Mercury was produced by Ford in 1939 as an entry-level luxury car. It was a few rungs on the ladder below the prestigious Lincoln, but far more classy than a standard sedan or coupe.
Mercury had some notable successes during the 1950s and 1960s when it distinguished itself from Ford with unique body designs. Unlike many new makes adopted by existing companies, Mercuries were built from the ground-up, their own cars, not just adapted to the Lincoln and Ford line.
