The Porsche motto is, "There is no substitute." This simple statement embodies the vision and focus of this heralded car company from the time of its inception in 1931 to the 21st century. Ferdinand Porsche, an acknowledged genius in his field, had little formal engineering education. His son, Ferry, inherited his father's way with automotive engineering and when he couldn't find a car he wanted to buy he built his own. It became the 356 and because it was the first model sold it is revered as the first genuine Porsche.

Throughout its history there was an exchange of Volkswagen and Porsche parts and engineering but the last releases of the 356s were purely Porsche inside and out. The car quickly won a well deserved reputation for performance and speed distinguished by its aerodynamic styling and precision engineering. It was bred for motor racing and the Porsche 550 Spyder proved itself on raceways everywhere. In 1964 the company launched the legendary Porsche 911 - air-cooled and powered by a 6-cylinder Boxer rear-engine. Carrying on the family tradition, it was Ferry's oldest son, Ferdinand, who led the team for the body design.

Many models of Porsche have graced the automotive world over the years. From Boxster roadsters to luxury models to SUVs, Porsche resonates with unquestioned quality. A May 2006 survey by the Luxury Institute named the Porsche the most Prestigious Automobile Brand of the year.
